After 4 long months of waiting, finally some News!
In February and March I had a lot of birthday-Parties. Those are the months where most of my collegues celebrate their birthday. Met a lot of new people with whom I get along really well. Since then I get a Tortilla every Friday and I send them cake in return.
In April, I have been home for a week. I wanted to grab some stuff which I wanted to take on to my next trip in May, but later more!
Couldn´t do so much in that week, as it was filled with Family stuff. but i could get to meet Tanja & Kathrin, which was great, as I haven´t seen Kathrin for more than 3 years as she has been to Africa.
Back in Barcelona I had a lot of work.
On April 17th I went to Alicante to see my Mom. She spends the cold months there and we wanted to celebrate my birthday there.I could help her by some formal stuff that one needs when living in a foreign country. On April 19th, my birthday, I had to leave again back to Barna, but I had the day off.In that sense, thank you very much again for the Birthday wishes. You are all awesome!
Back in Barna my collegues gave me my present. Tickets for Aerosmith & Kiss in June. Cool!!!
And then it was time to start the countdown for my great adventure. In the Beginning of May I got on a trip to Texas and Oklahoma to meet my family there and to see where they live.
It was really exciting for me as most of them I had never seen before and i just knew the stories the my grandparents told me or do know the ones that visited us in Germany, but that was a loooong time ago as my grandparents passed away 10 years ago already.
So I went from Barna via Frankfurt to Dallas. My Dads Cousine Elisabeth picked me up at the airport and took me to her house in McKinney. There I stayed the first couple of days. Later that day her son Patrick picked me up to show me around.
It was really funny because I was feeling crazy, really really tired and my language-chip just spit out spanish at first... But it was fun!
On the next day I went with Elisabeth to McKinney to eat and to go sightseeing. Nice place!
On Monday after lunch Roswitha (Rose, my Moms Cousine)picked me up at Elisabeths House and we went on to Melissa, Texas where Rose´s son Randy lives with his wife and their sons (twins) as well as their daughter. They had organized a family reunion of all of Rose´s Kids and Grandkids. Just Randy couldn´t be there because of work, but her other sons Rodney and James as well as her daughter Twanya. Everybody had come to see me and to get to know me and to ask me how my parents are. I brought my Computer and so I could show Photos from where I live as well as old Photos that I found in our basement that I had scanned. It was really fun!
Then we took a lot of pictures and exchanged addresses and email so that we can stay in touch. After that we ordered Pizza... yummy!
All day long it had been really windy and hot. It got hotter and hotter. Later that night we heard that there might be a tornado, but not in Melissa. But for me it was really impressive.
We stayed the night at Randy & Lisa´s house. On the next day we went to Trenton to see Twanya in her office and after that to Van Alstyne to have lunch with Audra & Rodney. After that we went to the Museum (normally it would have been closed because of construction, but as Audra told them that I came to visit from Germany we were able to go around)and then ... Off to Oklahoma!
Next Stop: Lone Grove!
There I met Sandra, Rose´s sister where I stayed the next couple of days. She has got 2 Chiwawas Nacho & Blazer who are really cute. I wanted to take Blazer with me in my Bagpack, but I didn´t want him to stay there for 11 hours... ;o)
In the evening we were watching "American Idol". Really cool. There they are looking for real talents not like in Germany where they just have to look good and talent is not necessary if they do a great "show". (If you got some time look for lee dewyze and Crystal Bowersox in google or youtube!)
On Wednesday we went through Lone Grove & Ardmore and to Lake Murray where we climbed up Tuckers Tower of which you have a nice view over the lake. We went to the Cemetary to see Johannas tumb stone.
I met Donna, a really good friend of Rose and Sandra. Later that day I went to church with them. The people there were really curious about where I am from, what I am doing, why am I here.... Weird, but nice. I think now I know how Celebreties feel like... ;o)
I stayed the night at Rose´s house. Her 2 cats were quite shy in the beginning but later i was accepted.
On Thursday we had lunch with Shon and in the evening we were invited to have supper with Terry (Rose´s & Sandra´s brother). He and his wife Pat spoiled me with grilled Steak and a chocolate cake... yummy. it was funny. We were looking at the photos (look Terry I wrote it correctly this time!!!!) and I was impressed by all the dead "Rudolphs"...
On Friday we went to Ada to see Shon and her Boys Riley & Cooper. I met Shon before when I was about 6 years old (so a loooooooooong time ago).
On Saturday Norbert(Rose´s, Sandra´s and Terry´s brother) came all the way down from Hobart. He visited us in Germany about 15 years ago so I knew him as well. On that day he brought Alexandria with him. A nice young lady for whom He and his wife have legal custody.
So we were driving around (Pat joined us on our trip), then eating at "The Cliff" with waitress Peggy-Sue and then went to a park near the Chickasaw Recreation Center and saw some Bisons.
As Alexx and Norbert would stay the night at Terry & Pat´s house, we thought it would be a great idea that I would spend the night there as well what I did, so we had more time to talk. Terry was working night-shift so I got to see him in the morning. He brought Donuts from Daylight... mmmmmmh yummy.
After a while we went to Lake Murray again to feed the fish.
And then Shopping at the Mall... ;o)
Later Norbert dropped me off at Rose´s house, so that we could go to Tulsa with Sandra.
On the way to Tulsa there was a hail-warning for baseball-size hail. The street was looking like there has been snow. Amazing...Some time later we arrived at Melissa´s house in Bixby. Melissa is Sandra´s youngest daughter and she came to visit us in 2008 with her husband and some friends. So now I got to see her and her husband again as well as Baby Liam. He was born on April 27th, so at that time he was just 3 weeks old! So cute!
On Monday we went to the Aquarium and drove through the neighborhood to see what it is like there. A lot of people mowing that day... ;o)
In the evening we went out to eat mexican food. It was so good.
On Tuesday we left Bixby and on our way back we stopped in Oklahoma-City to see the Memorial of the bomb in the Murrah-Federal-Building in 1995. Amazing and frightening at the same time.
Later that night at Sandra´s house it was time for... American idol.
The next day I had a day off because Rose & Sandra were attending a funeral. I used that day to put the pictures from my camera to my computer and looked at the news around the world.
Thursday we went to Forth Worth with Shon, her Boys, Rose, Sandra & me. We went to the zoo. Then we stayed the night at a hotel and on Friday we went to Grapevine Mills. A huge festival on the street. Really nice. After that we went to have lunch at Rainforest Cafe. That was really cool. I like this restaurant!
And then shopping in the Mall...
Later that night Shon gave me a lift to Elisabeth´s dance studio and I got to meet some of her friends as well as her dance teacher.
So I spend my last night in the USA at her house in McKinney.
On Saturday morning we went to an art fair in the Centre of McKinney and to see her friends practicing for a dance festival.
Her son Patrick came over with his 3 kids for lunch. So I got to meet the 3 little Emonts as well.
Then it was time to leave. I re-packed my suiotcase again and again and then off to the airport. Bye Bye USA, hello Europe.
In Frankfurt I had a layover for about 7 hours, so that my parents, my grandma and my uncle decided to pick me up at the airport to have lunch near the river in Frankfurt City. They brought Sunny as well. So there I was able to show the pictures already and to tell them what I did, and what I saw, etc.
Then my family told me the latest news they knew. After lunch we went for a walk with Sunny. There we found a platform on which was written "ICH" ("me" in english!) where you could go on top so it looks like your own statue. My dad and I did that and took pictures. Really funny!
Then it was already time to go back to the airport. Barcelona calling!
Back to routine with jetlag. On Monday was a holiday so that I had one more day to relax.
Then back to reality. Had a lot of work and a lot of questions to answer. And my collegues as well had stories to tell.
We have new staffmembers and I have a new Manager. And 2 members of the actual staff went away to face new challenges in Madrid or HongKong.
Then my roommate Sonia decided to leave Barcelona. So sad.
My former roommate Gina wanted to come back, but in the end she decided not to. But now we have a new roommate. I know Claudia for more than a year now. And as she was looking for a new room, she found a new home in our flat.
That´s it for now...
More next time!
See you later, alligator!
